Dick Gray graduated from the University of Minnesota with a degree in geology and petroleum engineering. His interests in botany and chemistry evolved into a lifelong attention to the environment that led to a specific concern about the quality of freshwater. In 1968 he founded the Freshwater Society and led the development of the Gray Freshwater Biological Institute in Navarre, Minnesota.

Jim GilbertJim Gilbert

Jim Gilbert is the Executive Director of the Linnaeus Arboretum and the naturalist at Gustavus Adolphus College in St. Peter, Minnesota. Jim is the author of Jim Gilbert's Nature Notebook, and Through Minnesota's Seasons with Jim Gilbert. Jim and his network of observers across Minnesota and western Wisconsin keep track of Phenology events. Jim has been associated with the Freshwater Society and has provided the phenology information for the Minnesota Weatherguide Environment Calendar since 1977.

nerdahl125Rod Nerdahl

Rod Nerdahl has been actively involved with astronomy education in the Twin Cities for nearly three decades. He genuinely enjoys sharing his lifelong passion, enthusiasm, and knowledge of astronomy with people of all ages. As Program Coordinator for the Minneapolis Planetarium, he wrote, produced, and presented many of the programs offered there between 1975 and 2002. Since 1989, Rod has also been the Astronomy Consultant to the Freshwater Society, creating the sky charts and astronomical data that it publishes in the Minnesota Weatherguide Environment Calendars. He is currently working as a freelance astronomy educator/consultant while pursuing a Master's Degree in Instructional Technology and Systems at the University of Minnesota. Rod, his wife, Peggy, and their twin children, Brad and Rachel, live in Columbia Heights, Minnesota.
